Southwest Florida Area Guide

Known for having some of the worlds best shelling beaches, Sanibel is a much-coveted vacation destination for visitors from around the globe.

A short drive from the Southwest Florida International Airport, the island is connected to the mainland by a three-mile scenic causeway. Sanibel is a sanctuary island with over 1,800 acres preserved for wildlife, just 12 miles long and 2 miles wide, with the historic light-house at one end and Blind-Pass bridge at the other. Whether you are coming for a few days, weeks or months there is plenty to do and see. Shop at the many quaint boutiques, or eat at the plethora of restaurants, visit the J.N.Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge, the world famous Bailey Matthews Shell Museum, learn about Sanibel history at the Historical Village, take boat to the out islands, spend a morning at the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation, play a round of golf, take a course at Big Arts, traverse the length of the entire island by bicycle on the dedicated bike paths, or just lounge on our 15.5 miles of beautiful beaches and swim in the inviting waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

When you have exhausted all there is to do on Sanibel, visit our sister island by driving over the short bridge at Blind Pass and meander the few short miles to the village of Captiva, park your car and take a leisurely walk around the shops and galleries, the beach and the bay, don’t forget to visit the Chapel By The Sea and the Gulfside cemetery.
